Keeping African Heritage Alive
This programme focuses on collecting and disseminating folk stories, or histories and personal testimonies from the African Diaspora in the UK. We will also document riddles, proverbs, wise sayings and folk tales from the African Diaspora, making them available to Diaspora children for generations to come.
African oral narratives and oral stories embody crucial values that have been passed from generation to generation – enabling societal cohesion, promoting artistic endeavour through the art of story-telling and keeping young people from the people connected to their cultural roots.
The aim of this programme is to see African heritage reflected in the National history, thus promoting a sense of belonging. We aim to have the African voice heard through these stories thus filling gaps in the history that is being made.
